I am truly inspired to read about a person’s deep desire for God just
like the need for food and water.During worship he drinks in God’s power and is so totally filled with
the Holy Spirit that he will sing and praise God’s name forever. It’s as though his soul has just
enjoyed a spectacular feast and he is completely full.Even during a sleepless night, he
meditates about God who has been his help and shelter.God is his stability and he is filled
with joy.
Here in the first few weeks of the Lenten season, many of us are probably still taking stock, deciding what needs improvement, and figuring out how to fix a weakness or two…or three. It may be easy to get caught up in what some have called the "spiritual spring cleaning" aspects of Lent, but while we're making our lists and checking them twice, perhaps it's wise to remember that any transformation will ultimately come through God's grace and not through our own powers.
Baptist missionary Adoniram Judson worked in Burma in the early 1800s.
Day after day he sat in the market and used verses 1-3 to call people to
God.Verse 5 is my favorite where
we read, “. . . and nations that knew you not shall run to you.”I also spent most of my adult life
overseas with those who have never heard (or did not want to hear) about God’s
love in Jesus Christ.That explains
why these words are a precious promise for all Christians who are serious about
sharing their faith.
Creator of the heavens and earth, I come before You as Your creation,
Your child. In Your hands, I have
been given life.In Your hands, I
am being made into Your image.Lord, with my words and my deeds, I pray that I honor You.You are worthy of my all, therefore I
give everything: my heart, my life, and my love.Form and mold me as You wish.Amen.
As I read the scriptures for today, I was struck by a number of things
not the least of which was the whole veil image. Many years ago, T and I were led to step outside of the
cover of those trying to tell us what God’s will was for our life and
work.Since doing this, we have
experienced a freedom in God that is difficult to express but that has been
liberating.We are who we are
through His love for us and because of the sacrifice of His son. Thanks be to God that we have been able
to remain faithful to our calling and the values which we have always held
dear.
