2010_winter_olympics_logosvgpn.pngIf you’re going to trash the Winter Olympics over the next two weeks, please stand at least the circumference of the speed skating short track away from me.  Sorry about that, it’s a little over a 100 meters.  Oh, sorry.  For those of you scratching your head right now, that is 327 feet.  Whoops, 109 yards.  No?  It’s just a Ford truck length over a football field.  Got it?

northhavencrosscompass.jpgThe Associated Baptist Press ran an interesting article yesterday by Carra Hughes Greer entitled entitled, “Why 20- and 30-year-olds are leaving the Baptist church.”   She describes two-types of churches these young adults are drifting away from today.  The first type is called the “harsh-church” where dogmatic orthodoxy demands strict conformity to an idealism crafted by narrow limits designed by judgement with limited room for grace.  The second type is called the “watered-down” church where theological reflection is shallow, replaced by a motivational self-help messages that spatters biblical language into a rhetoric of self-absorbed idealism.  According to the article, both of these religious philosophies are being rejected by 20- and 30-year-olds.

This morning, the men of NorthHaven and their dads gathered for breakfast. We had a great time of fellowship and building community. It was nice to see a group of men get up so early (6:30) to spend some valuable time with their sons. Everyone of them are great role models. Thanks for the good time guys!!!! - Mitch is mobile blogging.

Last evening, America watched as the New Orleans Saints defeated the Indianapolis Colts in the Super Bowl.  Echoes of “Who Dat?” bounced from the French Quarter all the way to Norman, Oklahoma.  “Who Dat?” has become the rallying cry for Saints fans, as their team and city have undergone tremendous heartache over the years.  Now, however, there is no question as to the identity of both the Saints or their beloved city.  They have overcome great odds, empowering them for great possibilities ahead.

On my way to the hospital today, I hit something in the highway and had a blowout. As I was changing the tire, all I could think about was the dad in The Christmas Store. I am proud to say I got through the ordeal in record time without any problems and very few curse words. Any of you have any good blowout stories? - Mitch is mobile blogging.
