On my way to the hospital today, I hit something in the highway and had a blowout. As I was changing the tire, all I could think about was the dad in The Christmas Store. I am proud to say I got through the ordeal in record time without any problems and very few curse words. Any of you have any good blowout stories? - Mitch is mobile blogging.

My Blow Out Story

Okay, so it's a Wednesday morning, about 8 AM, and I'm on my way to Tulsa for a day long docket. About half way down the Turner Turnpike the front, left tire blew out on the state car. Let me promise you that changing a tire along the turnpike in a suit and tie is not a lot of fun. Needless to say, I was going to be late for the hearings - which could not start without me since I had all of the court's files. So I called the judge (who was also a friend) and explained the situation and told him I would there as soon as I could.

When I reached the Department of Labor I ran to the courtroom, showing up about 20 minutes late. The judge jokingly asked if I "REALLY had had a blow out or had just overslept." I held up my hands, which were filthy and he laughed until he was red in the face and had tears in eyes.

I failed to see the humor in my dirty hands.

It wasn't until the end of the day, when I visited the bathroom before heading back down the turnpike and saw my reflection in the mirror, that I realized what was so funny about my dirty hands. Nothing. You see, running across my face was a huge grease streak where I had wiped my brow while changing the tire. It was at that moment that I realized what the judge was laughing about and I had to smile.

You know, there must have been 30 different people in that courtroom and no one told me about my face.

Just call me Braveheart.

I was driving Dad's MGB-GT, down "bloody" 520 causeway between Cocoa Beach & Merrit Island, at about 5:00, it didn't sound like much, but it lurched a little, the car rides real low so it wasn't easy to tell that it was riding any lower, the clue came when I tried to change lanes to get to the gas station. Yep, the front right blew, biggest nail I 'de ever seen. The attendant was so funny" well little missy, you got a flat tire on that fancy car", " why yes sir I do, could you change it for me", "Yes um", he did, I asked what I owed him, he grinned, "nothing, I've never seen this kinda car, sorta like a squished VW."
